A group of ten wine-growers of Les Coteaux de Visan have got involved in organic vine-growing
200 hectares of vines are cultivated according to organic vine-growing
The setting up of an organic vine-growing is the logical following up of the rational and respectful of environment vine-growing that Les Coteaux de Visan cellar have started for many years. Indeed, Les Coteaux de Visan cellar have established the plots selection in 1992, and since 1999, the viticulture technician has been in charge of the follow-up of the vineyard and advises the wine-growers on the phytosanitary follow up to preserve environment. The technician is also responsible for the plots selections for all the Côtes du Rhône Village Visan production which are entirely hand-harvested and carefully sorted, only the best plots are selected.
Moreover, the bottling at the cellar and the certification for quality insurance ISO 9001 version 2000 represent an additional warrant of quality.
Since 2007, a new step has been got through, a group of ten members of the wine-coop, who love nature and authenticity, have got involved in organic vine-growing and do their best to bring more satisfaction to their consumers who share their passion for nature.
The approach of both wine-growers and cellar has been certified by “Qualité France”.
Some wine-growers had already started this vine-growing method for many years and the certification has allowed to give more value to their work.
The impact on the preservation of environment is important as it represents 200 hectares of vines which are organically grown, that is to say 10 percent of all the vineyard of Visan and 14,3 percent of the parcels own by the members of the wine-coop.
These grapes have produced 4700 hectolitres of wines in 2008 (50 % Côtes du Rhône – 50 % Côtes du Rhône Village) which will be sold in bottles, indeed, Les Coteaux de Visan cellar will be the first operator of the Rhône Valley for organic wines production.
Four years of organic vine-growing conversion are compulsory to obtain AB label, the wines of Les Coteaux de Visan bear nowadays the mention « vin issu de raisins en conversion vers l’agriculture biologique » (wine made with grapes issued from organic vine-growing conversion), they will be AB certified from 2010 vintage.
Traceability is total from the plot to the bottle, on their arrival at the cellar, a special way is reserved to organically grown grapes, they are vinified separately and biologically.
French government encourages this process as it is within the framework of the Grenelle Environment law.
Organic vine-growing preserves the soil and environment as it does not use chemical treatments and allows to produce wine according to organic regulation.
This new commitment of Les Coteaux de Visan wine-growers is the proof of their care about environment preservation and of their will to propose a wine which comes up to the expectations of the consumers who share their convinctions.
